What's New at Community Mercantile

Updated: Sep 2, 2023

Our soft opening (9/11/22) and grand opening (10/30/22) were immensely successful, and helped spread the word about our new non-profit reuse business. We could not be more thrilled with the outpouring of community support! Our first quarter sales have been encouraging, and we are on the road to breaking even. (Whew!) Thank you all, and please help spread the word!

Our Retail Operation

We are open five days per week, Wednesday-Sunday. We receive new inventory almost every day- each time you visit us, it is an exciting adventure with new hidden treasures! Don’t hesitate to ask if you are having difficulty finding an item, and let us know if there are things you’d enjoy seeing in our store.

Our Classes

Our first class incorporated a holiday theme, community, and sustainability. Longtime friend Mary Hickman, owner of the local sustainable plant business Plant + Bunch (@plant.bunch) guided us in creating beautiful and fully compostable wreaths. It was a blast, and Mary outdid herself filling our store with a wealth of greenery!

Our second class was run by three longtime friends and crafters, Jen & Sela Martin-Lopez and Suzie Lee. After a generous donor gifted our store a huge quantity of exquisite origami paper, our instructors let loose with their creativity and helped us create stunning yet simple origami stars, Santa Claus’, and Christmas trees.

What’s Coming in 2023?

  1. A tool lending library,

  2. Up cycling and repair classes

  3. Downsizing consultations for folks interested in eliminating clutter and unnecessary possessions.

New Year Resolutions!

  1. Before you buy it, ask yourself if you really need it.

  3. Make it your mission to avoid buying single use plastics.
