Long-time Davis residents, Stephanie Koop and Larry Fisher, have an abiding passion for ecological causes. As our home planet groans under the weight of mass consumerism, these dedicated activists have taken a bold and significant step forward in lessening our carbon footprint by forming Community Mercantile. Their non-profit venture focuses on keeping a wide variety of valuable usable products in circulation for as long as possible, and out of the landfill.
On September 11, 2022, COMMUNITY MERCANTILE had a hugely successful soft opening of their new 2200 square foot warehouse located at 622 Cantrill Drive in Davis, CA. Nearly 200 eager shoppers found their way into this spacious store that is packed with a wide assortment of clothing, furniture, appliances, household goods, and miscellaneous items. Future ventures will include upcycling and repair workshops as well as a tool lending library.
The grand opening celebration for COMMUNITY MERCANTILE will take place on Sunday, October 30, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm with a brief welcome speech by Stephanie Koop at 3:30pm. Light refreshments will be offered and a reusable gift will be given the first 100 people who attend. There will be a Halloween theme, so please feel free to let your inner ghost out.
Those wishing to browse and make purchases are encouraged to arrive from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. It’s easy to see why their motto is “Shop here first and save the planet”.
